GROW IN GOD:How to grow more in God
Growth is a natural process.
We often hear compliments about how mature we’ve become, and we see ourselves evolving with time. But growth is not only about physical changes—like height or age—or even just about how differently we think.
Real growth happens in our spirit.
It’s about moving from spiritual infancy into maturity in our walk with Christ. When we don’t grow spiritually, we tend to overlook important areas of our lives that need God’s attention.
Just as our physical bodies need good food, our spiritual lives need the right nourishment to flourish. When we constantly take in negative, worldly content, it becomes harmful to our spiritual health.
Romans 12:2 (ERV) says:
“Don’t change yourselves to be like the people of this world, but let God change you inside with a new way of thinking. Then you will be able to understand and accept what God wants for you. You will be able to know what is good and pleasing to him and what is perfect.”
To grow spiritually, we must let God renew our thoughts and desires. When we open our hearts to Him, we begin to take in what is wholesome—filling our lives with truth, strength, and peace.
Growth begins with surrender.
When you let God transform your inner life, you begin to experience real and lasting change.
The only way to grow in God is by allowing Him to transform you from within.
But how can we truly allow God to change us?
1. Cultivate the habit of daily prayer
Prayer is more than just a religious act—it's a powerful connection between you and God. It's how we communicate our hearts to Him, express our dependence, and invite Him into every part of our lives.
When you choose not to pray, you're essentially saying, “I’ve got this on my own.” But prayer reminds us that we need God more than we need anything else.
Whether you're joyful or overwhelmed, in seasons of peace or hardship—pray. It’s through prayer that faith is built and God reveals Himself to us.
2. Read and study your Bible consistently
The Bible is God’s voice in written form. While prayer is how we speak to God, His Word is how He speaks back.
Daily Bible reading is essential to our spiritual growth—it feeds our souls, renews our minds, and helps us discern truth. The Word of God carries life, power, and direction. Don’t go a day without it.
3. Reflect and journal
Reflection helps you process your journey. Journaling gives space to pour out your thoughts, track your growth, and stay intentional.
Take time to look back on what God has done, where you are, and what you’ve learned. Write about your faith, struggles, goals, and testimonies. This practice keeps you grounded and focused.
4. Meditate
Meditation means quietly focusing on God’s Word and presence. It’s a moment of stillness where you allow His truth to sink in and speak to your heart. Meditate on scripture, on His promises, and on His goodness. It strengthens your inner peace and deepens your relationship with Him.
5. Encourage others
Your growth isn’t meant to stay with you. Share it. Speak life into others. Encourage your friends, pray with them, show kindness, and let them see Jesus through you.
As you lift others up, your spirit is also being strengthened. You’re planting seeds in their hearts—and your own.
These habits aren't one-time actions—they're daily disciplines.
Spiritual growth requires consistency. If you want to grow, grow intentionally. Let God meet you every day.
To help you stay consistent, a streak tracker has been created. With this tracker, you’ll be able to stay focused and ensure you complete your spiritual tasks each day.
How it works:
Each box on the sheet represents one day. Every time you complete your spiritual task for the day, simply shade one box. As you go on, you’ll see your consistency grow and your faith deepen.
It’s also printable. Get it printed and place it on your wall as a daily reminder.
